Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals hold Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licences in four sectors:
- research
- post-mortem
- human application (i.e. tissues and cells for patient treatment)
- organ donation and transplant
To maintain these licences, all staff involved with removing, storing or using human tissue must be aware of and comply with the HTA’s requirements, including:
- complying with legislation including the Human Tissue Act 2004 and the Human Tissue (Quality and Safety for Human Application) Regulations 2007
- acting in accordance with the HTA’s codes of practice
- meeting the HTA’s licensing standards
- complying with any directions issued by the HTA
- taking action as the result of a HTA regulatory alert
- periodic inspection of our premises and documentation by the HTA
