The disposal of human tissue falls within the remit of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA). The HTA has issued a code of practice on disposal, which applies to the disposal of all human tissue in the UK, not just from licensed premises.
Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust’s waste disposal policy was updated in 2012 to ensure continued compliance with the HTA’s code of practice on disposal. This policy gives instructions about how to dispose of all human material from Trust premises. Trust staff can access the policy on the staff intranet.
Disposal of research material from Imperial College London premises must be undertaken in accordance with the Imperial College London's healthcare waste code of practice.
