Patients are referred to us from across the country for investigation of coronary artery disease and other cardiac conditions. Our cardiac stress testing service for imaging is a nurse-led service provided by the nuclear medicine department.

Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is a non-invasive assessment of myocardial perfusion and function. The images produced provide information about the blood supply and motion of the left ventricle. The stress test is an essential preparatory stage of the investigation.

A lead nurse and two clinical nurse specialists provide and manage all aspects of the process, including clinical training/assessment, patient assessment, patient advice service, auditing and research.

The role also includes:

  • participation in reporting of myocardial perfusion scans

  • general nursing care and provision of information and advice for patients

  • peer education and research, presenting at national conferences and events.
