Angina/Refractory angina

Clinical nurse specialist

Julie Copps

Julie runs a clinic at Royal Brompton Hospital where she sees patients who have usually had angina for many years. They may have had a coronary artery bypass graft (heart bypass surgery) and percutaneous coronary intervention (such as angioplasty), but continue to have angina symptoms.

What happens in the clinic?

In the clinic, Julie talks to patients about managing their angina considering risk factors, lifestyle changes and relaxation techniques with them.

Julie works closely with the pain management nurse specialists and angina patients can attend pain management clinics if needed.

Education

The angina team runs a popular annual meeting for GPs and allied healthcare professionals. The emphasis is on a case-based discussion on diagnosis and treatment of angina.
