The role of the tissue viability service is to empower nursing and medical staff to provide competent, evidence-based practice in the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, the management of complex wounds and all aspects of skin care. This includes:

  • expert advice
  • wound clinic advice
  • clinical practice support
  • provision of education and training
  • policy and guideline development
  • wound dressing formulary management
  • monitoring and leading improved standards of care. 

Services provided:

  • surgical wound management
  • pressure ulcer management 
  • leg ulcer management
  • incontinence-associated dermatitis management
  • writing guidelines and protocols for all areas of wound, pressure/leg ulcer management and all aspects of wound care
  • producing Trust SSKIN care bundle 
  • staff education with internal and external study days and presentations
  • wound clinics at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals for discharged patients
  • provision of pre-operative information to patients before admission.
