The thoracic nurse practitioners at Harefield Hospital provide expert nursing input to the wider multi-disciplinary team, caring for patients undergoing a variety of thoracic surgical procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They work as part of this multidisciplinary team to provide care, support and information to patients, their families and carers on any aspect of living with a diagnosis of a thoracic condition, its treatment, or concerns about its impact upon their daily lives. They liaise daily with the wards, pain team, cancer nurses, and supportive and palliative care teams to provide integrated nursing care planning.
They also run a nurse-led thoracic drain clinic for patients who are discharged home with a drain in place, which is held on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
