As the clinical nurse specialist for interstitial lung disease, my key role is supporting and educating patients and their families.

Inpatient services include:

  • Acting as a clinical resource for ward staff providing support and teaching 

  • Multidisciplinary team liaison and referral

  • Six-minute walking tests and oxygen assessments

  • Support and education for patients receiving a new diagnosis or starting new treatments

Outpatient services include:

  • Telephone advice and support for patients and GPs

  • Cyclophosphamide clinic on the day unit

  • Co-ordination of new drug therapies

  • Co-ordination of support groups
  • Links with other units and external agencies
