At a consultation event for staff at Royal Brompton Hospital on Friday (31 March), NHS England claimed their proposals to decommission congenital heart disease (CHD) services from the Trust had the backing of clinicians … but were unable to arrange for a single doctor to attend the meeting and defend the proposals.

Nearly two thousand doctors, nurses, patients, family members and other campaigners marched along Chelsea’s famous Kings’ Road on Saturday to protest against NHS England plans to decommission congenital heart disease services at Royal Brompton Hospital. 

Yesterday, 21 MPs issued a letter to Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt MP calling for him to block plans to decommission congenital heart disease (CHD) services at the Trust.

At a public consultation event last night (7 March), NHS England’s national clinical director for heart disease, Professor Huon Gray, admitted there was “no scientific evidence” to back the decision to withdraw congenital heart disease services from Royal Brompton Hospital.
