Types of cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is a heart muscle disease. There are a number of different types of cardiomyopathy, but we mainly treat:
- dilated cardiomyopathy
- hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy
- left ventricular non-compaction.
There are other rarer types of cardiomyopathy that our patients may be diagnosed with, including:
- restrictive cardiomyopathy- where the heart muscle is too stiff to pump effectively
- post-partum cardiomyopathy- a dilated cardiomyopathy which has developed during the last stages of pregnancy or just after birth
- Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or broken heart syndrome.
When and where are the clinics?
On the day of your appointment, you should come to the main hospital reception. You will then be directed to your clinic.
Our children's clinics have toys, colouring pencils and a TV, but you might also want to bring a toy or game for your child.
