There is a dedicated paediatric clinical psychologist who works with the inherited cardiac conditions service at Royal Brompton Hospital. The psychologist offers assessment and a range of support to children, their families and carers.

A referral to psychology can be: 

• made by the inherited cardiac conditions team
• made by staff at Royal Brompton Hospital
• requested directly by young people and their parents.

Appointments can be offered during an inpatient admission or to outpatients. 

Appropriate support is offered for difficulties that may arise for a child with a chronic health condition, and/or their family, such as: 

• managing treatments
• preparation for procedures/surgery
• coping/preparation/managing change at school
• mood
• behavioural challenges
• support for parents and siblings.

Referrals

Referrals to the service are welcomed from children and parents of children who are being treated at the inherited cardiovascular conditions clinic. 

If you would like to refer yourself of your child to the paediatric clinical psychologist, you should ask any member of the paediatric ward or outpatient staff to put you in touch. You can also contact the paediatric clinical psychology department directly.
