Biography
Professor Ulrich Stock studied medicine at the Universities Bonn and Marburg in Germany, as well as in Innsbruck, Austria and Zurich, Switzerland. He did his clinical training at university hospitals in Hamburg, Kiel, Hannover and Jena, Germany. He then went on to work as a research fellow with Harvard University at the Children’s and Massachusettes General Hospital in Boston.
He qualified as a cardiac surgeon in 2002, and in 2006 as a cardiovascular intensive care specialist. Before joining the Trust, Professor Stock was deputy director of the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Thoracic Vascular Surgery at Goethe University in Frankfurt. He also headed the heart failure centre there and was instrumental in the clinical development of minimally mechanical assist device surgery.
Areas of expertise
Professor Stock is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon based at Harefield Hospital and an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College, London and the Magdi Yacoub Institute based at Harefield Hospital. He is also an associate professor for Cardiac Surgery at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.

Research interests
Professor Stock’s research focuses mainly on regenerative medicine such as tissue engineering, cryopreservation and ventricular assist devices.
Publications and international work
Professor Stock has written over 120 peer-reviewed papers, reviews and editorials, as well as contributed to many book chapters. He is a reviewer for more than 17 national and international journals and regularly acts as a reviewer for funding societies in the UK, Germany, Israel and for the European Research Council.
He has spoken in more than 20 countries with over 300 presentations as an international lecturer.
