Biography

Dr Joyce Wong studied at the University of London. She completed her specialist training in cardiology and general internal medicine at St Bartholomew's, the London Chest and Royal Brompton hospitals.

She completed her PhD at St Bartholomew's and London Medical School in 2004. Her PhD was in the field of inflammatory modulation of atherosclerosis.

Areas of expertise

Dr Wong is a consultant cardiologist and lead clinician in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) at Harefield Hospital.

She specialises in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), looking at common and unusual forms of heart failure and other cardiac diseases. She works closely with multidisciplinary conference panels to review cases. These cases generally refer to angioplasty, cardiac transplantation and heart surgery.

Research interests

Dr Wong's research interests include: 

  • the role of CMR to check inherited cardiovascular disease
  • coronary artery disease and its effects on the myocardium
  • inflammatory heart disease
  • assessment of cardiac pathophysiology in heart and lung transplantation. 

She has collaborated on important clinical trials such as: 

  • CVLPRIT - assessing how CMR works in managing bystander coronary artery disease in heart attack patients
  • MR-INFORM - looking at the value of stress CMR compared to invasive pressure wire studies in managing stable angina patients. 

Teaching 

Dr Wong lectures on her specialisms to a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dr Wong has authored and co-authored many papers published in high-profile journals including the: 

  • Journal of the American College of Cardiology
  • European Heart Journal
