Biography

After qualifying from University College, Dublin, Dr Ridge interned in Surgery and Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital, Ireland. She undertook her senior house officer training in Internal Medicine at Beaumont Hospital, Ireland, followed by specialist registrar training back at St Vincent’s Hospital. She then moved to America in a cardiothoracic imaging fellow position at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre. 

This was followed by a body imaging fellowship and subsequently a vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre.

In 2013, Dr Ridge was appointed as a consultant radiologist at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin and joined the Trust in July 2017. 

Areas of expertise

Dr Ridge is strongly committed to cardiothoracic, oncologic imaging and interventional radiology. In her role as a consultant radiologist at the Trust, she has clinical expertise in cardiothoracic imaging and lung tumour ablation.  Her research work in these fields was acknowledged with a Radiologic Society of North America Roentgen Fellow Research Award in 2013.

Her research interests include lung cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiac and pulmonary embolism imaging. This reflects her passion for investigation, learning and task completion in terms of exploring these conditions. Now, in her consultant position, she enjoys mentoring junior doctors in pursuing their research interests. 

Clinical expertise

Dr Ridge interprets thoracic and cardiovascular imaging studies, including that of patients with acute and congenital aortopathy, coronary artery and congenital heart disease. She is also a member of the lung cancer multidisciplinary team and performs CT and PET-CT staging, CT-guided biopsy, fiducial localization, and thermal ablation.

Teaching

Since 2009, Dr Ridge has had a number of academic appointments in America and Ireland. In the US, she held lecturer, mentor and tutor positions at UCD School of Medicine and Health Science, Harvard Medical School and New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell respectively.

In 2013, Dr Ridge moved back to Ireland to take up a lecturer position at University College, Dublin and at the start of 2017 was promoted to Assistant Professor before moving to the Trust in July. 

Publications

Dr Ridge has contributed extensively to a number of publications, including the Journal of Thoracic Disease, Seminars in Roentgenology, World Journal of Cardiology and the British Journal of Cardiac Nursing. Her contributions have been on the topics of thoracic imaging, cardiovascular imaging, internal medicine, interventional radiology and abdominal imaging. 

She also has extensive contributions to a number of review articles, case reports and books, and has been a journal reviewer for the Journal of Thoracic Imaging and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
