An online portal that puts you in control of your medical records
We are introducing a new way for our patients to be able to see their medical information online, any time, anywhere.
Patients Know Best (PKB) is a secure online portal that allows you to store your health records in one place to give you instant access to and better control of important information such as appointment letters, test results, care plans and medical correspondence between you and your healthcare team.
Building an online record of your health can help keep you and those involved in your care informed more regularly, which can lead to better decisions about your health and the care that you need.
With the Patients Know Best portal, you can:
See your health records securely in one place, any time anywhere
- View your hospital letters and appointments, medical correspondence, test results and care plans from wherever you are and on any device that has an internet connection.
Share your health information with whoever you choose
Instantly share your health record with carers, family members and other health professionals involved in your care. This can be particularly helpful if you see a new clinician, or in an emergency. Ultimately, you will have complete control over who can see the information that sits on the Patients Know Best portal.
Record important information and track your progress
- Update your medical information in real time on things like medication, allergies, and diagnoses. You can also use the online journal to record and monitor any symptoms you are experiencing.
Please note: You may not be able to access all of the portal’s features when you first log in, but we will let you know when they become available for you to use.

How to register
The Patients Know Best portal is currently only open to a small number of patients for selected clinics at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals.

Frequently asked questions
Patients Know Best is an NHS accredited system and our chosen provider to deliver this service. It meets the strict NHS requirements for health record systems and is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 2018.
You can access your PKB record from any smartphone, tablet, or desktop device. There is no need to update your device or install new software. Simply use your web browser to log in at my.patientsknowbest.com. However, either you (or your carer) will need regular internet access to receive your correspondence and to use all the features. You can also see your record via the PKB app by downloading it on your smartphone.
Patients Know Best is designed to improve your care and how you experience your care, help you to be more involved in decisions, get better explanations from us, and give you the tools to manage your care safely at home.
Patients Know Best is hosted within the NHS network, so it is just as secure as the information we hold about you. We chose this system because it meets the strict NHS requirements for health record systems and is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 2018. All personal and health information is encrypted (or coded), with the company that provides PKB having access only to your NHS number. This means only you and the people you choose can access your health information.
Yes, family members and carers can, with your consent, register on your behalf. However, they should not use their own email account to do this. If you want the family member or carer to have access to your record they can be added in the “sharing” section. This will mean they can set up their own account and you can control the level of access they have to your record.
We are unable to add any information until you have registered. Once you have registered, your correspondence will start to become available. In the meantime, you can add your own information, such as tracking your symptoms or recording any allergies or medication you take.
Please email PKB directly at email@example.com. You only need to provide your name, the name of the organisation that created your account (i.e. Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust) and a summary of the problem(s) you have encountered.
