Members of the Harefield pulmonary rehabilitation research team, led by Dr William Man, collected several prestigious prizes at the recent American Thoracic Society International Conference in Washington DC.
Dr William Man was honoured with the Career Achievement Award from the Assembly on Pulmonary Rehabilitation for “outstanding contributions relevant to the understanding of pulmonary rehabilitation.” He is the first UK winner of this award.
“I am chuffed to be recognised in such a way by my international peers – this is a real testament to the consistently excellent care and patient-focused research output from the Harefield pulmonary rehabilitation teams. I would particularly like to thank the many hundreds of often very breathless patients who have given up their time to help out in our research studies”.
Suhani Patel, Ruth Barker, and Veronica Delogu from Dr Man’s research group also collected American Thoracic Society International Scholarships for their research abstracts, which were amongst the highest-scored by independent reviewers. Claire Nolan, NIHR doctoral fellow and also from Dr Man’s team, received a highly competitive scholarship from Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis for her work in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
