The cardiovascular and respiratory biomedical research units (BRU) recently held an annual open day where staff, patients and members of the public were able to meet researchers and find out more about what they do.
Attendees were encouraged to get involved in interactive demonstrations including extracting DNA from strawberries and viewing cells through microscopes. They could also view images of heart muscle in 3D with state-of the-art imaging equipment.
The open day was held at venues in Sydney St and Fulham wings and was extremely well attended.
Zahra Aden, respiratory BRU public involvement co-ordinator: “Our researchers have been really busy doing demonstrations and answering questions. It is really pleasing to see so many patients and members of the public coming along. We always aim to put them at the centre of our research activity and it is great for them to see what goes on behind the scenes.”
