The research Biobank, supported by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), is helping to advance respiratory and cardiovascular translational research.
The Biobank enables collection and storage of human samples which is linked to clinical data. A comprehensive spectrum of specimens, consented for donation by patients undergoing treatment within the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, are processed and stored here.
Each year, our two hospitals help more than 137,000 outpatients and more than 30,000 inpatients with complex cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The Biobank has recently collected its 2000th sample, a huge number of samples to be collected by one Trust.
The facilities of the Biobank benefits internal and external researchers by providing a standardised, equitable, accessible and transparent resource.
Researchers interested in accessing the specimens will be required to submit an application to the Biobank manager, which will be reviewed by the appropriate Cardiovascular or Respiratory Committee for approval.
