Heart failure

 

Clinicians focused on heart failure research are:

 

Dr Nick Banner: the immunology of cardiac transplantation; diagnosis and treatment of organ rejection.

 

Dr Emma Birks: the impact of ventricular assist devices (artificial hearts) in heart failure care and their effect on myocardial recovery. Currently on leave of service in the USA.

 

Professor Martin Cowie: the causes of cardiovascular disease and heart failure and new ways of managing the care of the heart failure patients including remote monitoring.

 

Dr Sanjay Prasad: the role of genetics in predicting and treating heart failure and cardiomyopathy; magnetic resonance imaging of cardiomyopathy.

 

Dr Rakesh Sharma: evaluating new treatments for heart failure and atrial fibrillation; understanding the role of the hibernating myocardium and revascularisation in heart failure.

 

Mr Andrè Simon: transplantation immunology; cardiac imaging; ventricular assist devices (artificial hearts).
