The AIMS Study (Aortic Irbesartan Marfan Study
)
The AIMS study will evaluate how effective Irbesartan is in reducing the rate of aortic dilatation in patients with Marfan Syndrome. This is a multi-centre, randomised, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial which will be undertaken in over 20 sites in the UK. The aim is to recruit 490 patients and follow up for a maximum of 5 years and the primary outcome is the rate of aortic dilatation as measured by echocardiography. The study is in the set up phase and recruitment is likely to commence in the Autumn 2010. The study is Sponsored by the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and funded by the British Heart Foundation and Marfan Trust. For further information please see the
