Patients and the public - our activities

Our researchers are involved in various public engagement activities including education, media, events and exhibitions.


2012 activities



  • Café Scientifique: "Heart surgery ... Exostent, the story of the aortic jacket"
    Date: Wednesday 8 February
    Venue: Sydney st coffee shop
    Time: 6.30pm-8pm

    Café Scientifique is an opportunity for patients, the public and our researchers to discuss and debate heart research. Join Tal Golesworthy, engineer and Marfan syndrome patient, and Professor John Pepper, heart surgeon, to discuss the external aortic root support - winner of the medical and healthcare prize at the 2011 Technology and Innovation awards. 2011 activities

In the Cardiovascular BRU:

In 2011, our aims were to:

  • Hold our first BRU open day

  • Pilot a workshop for young people

  • Hold two external events to raise public awareness of our research

 

We worked with our research partner, Imperial College London, to make best use of their skills, expertise and facilities in developing our outreach activities:

 

Joint events between the Cardiovascular and Respiratory BRU

  • UK Clinical Research Facility open day – 20 May 2011
  • Age Concern event, The Pavilion Shopping Centre – 11 October 2011

2010 activities


In the Cardiovascular BRU:

 

  • Cardiovascular BRU opening event –  patients and their families joined us for the opening of our new BRU facility to hear about our research work, ask our researchers questions and see our new, state-of-the-art facility – 15 November 2010

 

 

 

Joint events between the Cardiovascular and Respiratory BRU


  • 'FindOutMore': a joint heart and lung BRU interactive exhibit held at Royal Brompton Hospital to promote our public involvement work and raise awareness of our research. Patients and children visiting the hospital took part in our activities, including building a DNA molecule and our fun and informative quiz – 15 December 2010
