Nuclear medicine lung scan

This scan is used to look at the blood and air supply to your lungs. For the first part of the scan we will ask you to breathe in a harmless gas while six images are taken. This takes about fifteen minutes and shows the air supply to your lungs.

For the second part of the scan we will ask you to lie down and we will give you an injection of a small amount of radioactive material (the tracer). We will then take a further six images. This part of the scan takes about thirty minutes and shows us the blood supply to your lungs.
