York ward

Two doctors and a nurse discussing a patient's file

On York ward we care for patients with a wide range of cardiac problems, who require investigations or procedures. The majority of nurses on the ward have completed postgraduate cardiac courses and have extensive experience in caring for these conditions.

When you arrive

Please arrive at 11am or after, to make sure we have time to prepare a bed area for you. On arrival you will be shown to your bed and a nurse will admit you, asking questions about you and your symptoms. The doctor will then be asked to examine you.

The admitting nurse and doctor will discuss the procedures that you are scheduled to have and will give you the relevant information booklets to read.

Depending on the nature of your condition you may be visited and advised by one of the three nurse specialists employed within the cardiology unit.  The nurses offer advice on rehabilitation, heart failure and support patients waiting for a translation.

Your length of stay will depend on the type of procedure or investigation you are having, your nurse or doctor will be able to advise you on your expected length of stay.

Visitors

Visiting hours are from 2.30pm to 8pm. We advise that visiting outside these hours is at the discretion of the nurse in charge. Children are allowed to visit at the discretion of the nurse in charge.

If your relative requires accommodation please let us know before you are admitted, as on site accommodation is limited.
