Top-rated services

Royal Brompton's dedicated paediatric department is a national referral centre for children with heart and lung conditions. We offer a full range of diagnostic and surgical interventions from the prenatal stage onwards.

In the most recent review (2006), by the then Healthcare Commission, our services for children were given an ‘excellent’ rating. The Trust's rating of four, the maximum possible, was achieved by only four per cent of trusts surveyed and by just two others in London.

In 2010, 7,617 babies and children with heart problems were treated in outpatient clinics, and 1,475 as inpatients.

Essential information

There are three parent sitting rooms, two very close to Rose ward and one on PICU.

The playroom is open daily between 10am and 12 noon, between 1pm - 4.30pm and then between 5.30 and 7.30pm. Between 1.30 and 2.30 we have a babies’ quiet time either in the playroom or in the baby and toddler rooms on the ward.

A youth worker visits twice a week to see children aged 11 to 16. Normally he or she is here between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesdays and 4.30pm and 7.30pm on Thursdays, although these times might vary.

There is a payphone opposite the school room on level 4 and more payphones on level 2 by the coffee shop

Please do not use mobile phones inside the hospital, and particularly not on the children’s wards, as they can interfere with equipment.

A phone for the use of families is in the main corridor on Rose Ward and can be used for incoming and outgoing calls. The number is 020 7795 1241.
