Patient assessment gives Trust double excellent
Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust achieved double excellent for patient food and privacy and dignity in this year’s annual Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) results. The assessment, published today by the National Patient Safety Agency, was carried out by a team of staff and volunteers who visited wards at both hospitals to ask patients for their opinions.
In its 10th year, PEAT is an annual self assessment by healthcare organisations with inpatient sites. The results are validated by independent assessors and demonstrate how well individual healthcare providers believe they are performing in key areas, including:
-
Food: quality of food and its nutritional value: Trust score of ‘Excellent’ at both sites
-
Privacy and dignity: the quality of sleeping accommodation as well as toilet/bathroom facilities: Trust score of ‘Excellent’ at both sites
-
Environment: cleanliness, decoration, linen, furniture and state of repair: Trust score of ‘Good’ at both sites
Commenting on the results, Steve Moore, head of estates and facilities at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted with this year’s results. The scores reflect our key aims - to provide the best possible specialist treatment for patients in a clean, safe place and to treat everyone with respect, dignity and courtesy at all times. It was particularly helpful to have input from two of our governors this year, and we look forward to their continued interest in our work.”
PEAT assessments are carried out by a range of NHS staff, including: nurses, doctors, catering and domestic service managers as well as executive and non-executive directors. Patients and members of the public are also part of this assessment process.
