Trust's charity set to reap rewards of online shopping

PRESS RELEASE

Embargoed: 00.01 Monday 13 July 2009

Online shoppers who sign up to support the Royal Brompton and Harefield Charitable Fund through a national loyalty card scheme can shop guilt-free knowing their purchases will help raise money for the charity.

Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust will launch the Hospital Gift loyalty scheme on Monday, 13 July. Hospital Gift donates half the commission from online purchases to the Royal Brompton and Harefield Charitable Fund while the other half contributes to the scheme’s running costs.

Patients, the public and staff are encouraged to register their support at www.hospitalgift.co.uk and there will be displays in reception areas of both hospitals.

Jennifer Walton, Director, Royal Brompton & Harefield Charitable Fund, said: “While NHS funds ensure that our hospitals provide an excellent service, there’s always a need for additional income to fund state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, as well as an innovative research programme to provide new treatments for heart and lung disease.”

“If all our supporters do their online shopping via Hospital Gift, our charity could receive thousands of pounds every year.”

The scheme involves many leading high street stores and has been successfully launched at 11 other trusts across the country.

Hospital Gift was set up by registered disabled entrepreneur Adam Gregory who, after spending months in hospital in a wheelchair, recognised the huge contribution made by hospital charities to the welfare of patients.
