Dr Constantinos Anagnostopoulos is consultant and honorary senior lecturer in nuclear medicine with special interests in the fields of PET/CT and nuclear cardiology. He is deputy clinical director of the nuclear medicine department at Royal Brompton Hospital and lead nuclear medicine consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Research
His research focuses on development, validation and application of radionuclide techniques for assessing myocardial perfusion and ventricular function and also on development of non-invasive imaging strategies for the detection and management of coronary atherosclerosis and heart failure.
Specialist advisor
He has been an advisor to the Department of Health through the National Institute for Clinical Excellence on scoping the document: “Appraisal of Myocardial Perfusion Imaging” and an external expert at the appraisal committee procedures. His advisory activities were linked to his duties as president of the British Society of Nuclear Cardiology and council member both of the British Cardiovascular Society and British Nuclear Medicine Society.
Teacher
Dr Anagnostopoulos has an extensive range of national and international teaching activities including the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) sponsored course “Nuclear Cardiology in practice” and also a number of BSc and MSc programmes as well as the Royal College of Radiologists Seminars for Radiology SpRs.
International speaker
Dr Anagnostopoulos was trained in Thesssaloniki, Greece before undertaking postgraduate training at Royal Brompton Hospital. He lectures regularly at a number of events organised by the University of Thessaloniki and various professional societies in Greece. In addition, he has been invited to give lectures at annual meetings and congresses of other international societies including the European Association of Nuclear Medicine and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
International collaboration
Dr Anagnostopoulos has been a Visiting Scholar at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School with which he maintains collaboration links. He also has active collaboration with colleagues from various European centres and he is a nucleus member of the European Society of Cardiology Working group in Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT. In addition, he is a member of the ESC/EANM Nuclear Cardiology Guideline committee and a referee in numerous international journals.
Publications
As well as publishing a number of papers in international peer reviewed journals and being an author or a co-author of many book chapters, he is also the principal editor of the international book, “Non-invasive Imaging of myocardial ischaemia” (Springer-Verlag). He is also guest editor of HEART, and in addition, editor and chair of the writing group of the UK Guidelines for Radionuclide Myocardial Perfusion Imaging.
