Overview
The department specialises in the care of children with heart problems who may require medical treatment, surgical repair or post-surgical follow-up. Our department philosophy reflects our belief that children should be cared for within a framework of family-centred care and therefore we encourage parents and families to be present during all consultations and participate in agreeing the child's treatment plan.
Information for Doctors
The Paediatric Directorate is a tertiary referral centre for children with cardio-respiratory disease. Referrals are mainly accepted from district general and teaching hospitals within the South East of England although children from abroad can also be referred and treated privately at the hospital.
The dedicated Paediatric Out Patient department is housed within a recently redeveloped and decorated area. Consultant led clinics in the following specialities are held within the department:
- Paediatric Cardiology
- Fetal Cardiology
- Paediatric Cardiopulmonary Transplantation
If any of the children need to be admitted to hospital for treatment this admission will occur at Royal Brompton Hospital where all the Paediatric in patient care is now given.
Well established Clinical Governance and Audit programmes are in place to ensure the delivery of a high standard of medical and nursing care and patient satisfaction.
