The allergy team, led by Professor Stephen Durham, diagnoses and manages all types of suspected allergic conditions.

All types of suspected allergic conditions are diagnosed and managed including:


The service


  • General and specialist outpatient allergy clinics, including a nose clinic and food allergy clinic
  • Access to highly specialist blood tests, including individual allergen testing (molecular diagnosis)
  • Immunotherapy (desensitisation) service for cat, house dust mite and grass pollen allergy
  • Oral food challenges for the diagnosis of food allergy
  • Drug challenges, including support for those requiring immunisations
  • Nasal studies (nasal challenge, flexible and rigid endoscopy, diagnostic biopsy)

The team


The allergy team is led by Professor Stephen Durham, who has an international reputation in the field of allergy. The team also contains:


  • medical consultants

  • a consultant allergy dietitian

  • senior clinicians

  • specialist registrars

  • a specialist allergy nurse

  • an allergy dietitian.

Meet the adult allergy team 


The allergy team is an experienced multidisciplinary team of doctors, dietitians and a nurse, who have expertise covering the specialties of allergy, food allergy, ENT and gastroenterology.

All team members are actively involved in research. Current projects include:


  • basic research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of rhinitis
  • allergen immunotherapy (wasp / bee venom, anaphylaxis and allergic rhinitis) 
  • development of new treatments including pharmacotherapy and immunosuppressive therapy 
  • plant allergy
  • peanut allergy.
