The online petition to save Royal Brompton Hospital’s children’s cardiac surgery services is nearing 10,000 signatures, while paper signatures have already taken the total to more than 12,000.
A review of children's heart services in England has recommended that Royal Brompton's cardiac surgery for children should stop.
Trudy Nickels, manager of The Brompton Fountain charity, which is running the online campaign, said: “It’s been brilliant getting so much online support, but we can always do with more people supporting us and raising awareness of the threat to these incredibly important services. So please, sign the petition if you haven’t already done so.”
Many parents have taken to the streets with paper petitions and one mother, Collette Pridmore from Kent, is collecting signatures at the nursery she runs. Her son, who relies on the specialist services provided by Royal Brompton, has a rare lung haemorrhaging condition that affects only one in four million people.

Signatures are not the only way supporters are showing their belief in the high-quality services at Royal Brompton. A band based in Hertfordshire is using a specially written song to help the campaign. When Alister Gibbons, drummer in Kill the Weekend, heard about the threat he and his band mates quickly decided to donate funds from sales of the song, to be released in mid May, to The Brompton Fountain.
