20 September 2011
The European conference and annual scientific meeting of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (PCICS) takes place in Cambridge on 21-23 September 2011.
Dr Duncan Macrae, director of children’s services at Royal Brompton Hospital and president of PCICS, heads an international line-up of speakers from the USA, France, Canada, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, Singapore, New Zealand, and the UK.
The programme has a strong cardiac focus while also providing insights into other important areas of paediatric critical care. Delegates, who include cardiologists, critical care physicians, cardiac surgeons, anaesthesiologists, paediatric critical care nurses, registered nurses, and advanced practice care nurses, will have access to leaders in scientific and clinical research and patient care.
Dr Macrae said: "The programme this year brings together world leaders in their fields to nurture an environment where delegates can learn, share and participate. In addition to plenary sessions there are grand poster rounds, panel discussions, ‘Meet the Expert’, free paper sessions and difficult case presentations.
"I believe it will be an exceptionally worthwhile conference."
Dr Jan Till, consultant paediatric electrophysiologist, is a member of the faculty for the Electrophysiology in Paediatric Intensive Care Symposium, which will take place on the second day of the conference.
Dr Margarita Burmester, consultant intensivist, and the SPRinT UK team are running a simulation workshop, a debate on patient safety and participating in a simulated team scenario during the conference.
Other speakers from Royal Brompton include Dr Joan La Rovere, director of the PICU, consultants Dr Darryl Shore, Dr Anselm Uebing, Dr Jeremy Cordingley, Dr Nazima Pathan, Dr Susanna Price, Dr Helena Gardiner, Dr Michael Gatzoulis, Dr Anke Furck, and arrhythmia specialist nurse, Catherine Renwick.
