The award marked Professor Bush’s contribution to the improvement of global care for children with pulmonary diseases.
"When my name was read out at the conference, it was a complete surprise," Professor Bush said. "This award is given at the discretion of the president of the Congres International de Pneumologie Pediatrique, which organises the conference. I feel very honoured and humbled to have received this kind of recognition.
"However, it is also an award for the whole children’s lung disease group at Royal Brompton Hospital, and the outstanding work that they do, as well as an accolade for the Trust, which has developed a strong reputation for world-leading respiratory care for children."
The award comes at the same time as Professor Bush's appointment as joint editor of
Thorax, a leading international respiratory medicine journal. It is the first time that a paediatrician has been appointed to the role. He will edit the journal alongside Professor Ian Pavord, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Glenfield Medical School, University Hospitals Leicester. Read more on the
